Fun at the cross-country race

The children in Room 1 did a fantastic job last Friday running at our cross-country race!

The children practiced during the whole week and they were learning the difference between jogging and sprinting. They tried very hard to jog so that they could save some energy to sprint at the end and perhaps win the race. Ka pai!

What can we measure?

The children in Room 1 have been learning about measurement using non-standard units. They have discussed which tools might be more appropriate tools to measure objects of different sizes. The children suggested that we could use a big elephant to measure the length of the field and a little crumb to measure the size of an ant.
After our discussion the children used linking cubes to measure their school bags.

Victoria's schoolbag measured 26 connecting cubes

Jackson's schoolbag measured 19 connecting cubes

Lana's schoolbag measured 18 connecting cubes

Asher's schoolbag measured 23 connecting cubes

Leo's schoolbag measured 23 connecting cubes

Mrs Fala's handbag measured 17 connecting cubes.

The children are showing great interest in learning more about measurement!

The children in Room 1 have been learning numbers before and after to 20. They have been doing a great job working in small groups and helping each other to recognize and order numbers. Ka pai!
