The Beginning of Lent!

Week three has been a very eventful and special time in our Liturgical year-the beginning of Lent! The children have engaged in the meaning of Lent-a time for making promises to Jesus in order to be more like him! We strive to be kind, help our parents/caregivers/grandparents/friends, attend Mass with our families, all things that make us want to be better people. We made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday to remember all those gave up luxury things like flour, eggs and sugar for Lent. We celebrated Ash Wednesday by attending Mass and receiving the Ashes as a symbol of beginning a new journey towards Easter. The children all made a Lenten Promise that helps them to be more like Jesus, living the Gospel in their everyday lives. These are displayed in our classroom and will be until Easter.

Praying

In week two, the children were given the opportunity to find all the places that we could pray in our Good Shepherd School community. Some places were identified very quickly, and others they discovered hidden where they had not known before! Some of these places were our school gardens and playground, our classroom, the Church and the Grotto in front of the presbytery. We are learning that praying is 'talking to God' and that this can happen anywhere we like as Jesus is always with us, loving us all and wanting us to talk to him.

Welcome to Room 1 2018

Welcome to all our new and returning students to Room 1! We have had a wonderful week of getting to know each other and our families. We begun with learning the parable of The God Shepherd and how we too can follow Jesus by making good choices. We each made a lamb for our Prayer Space that symbolises each one of us as 'precious' to Jesus. We have been having a go at learning some letters and their sounds, and practising writing about all the things that we like!
The children in Room 1 have also been experimenting with Maths tools that  help us to count and write numbers.

Room 1 have made a tremendous start to their learning this week and we can't wait to see what they do next!
