Market Day!

On Thursday last week, the Good Shepherd School Councillors held a Market Day to raise money for a Catholic Special Character feature for the foyer. Throughout the week the children had been donating toys, books, puzzles and things they didn't use anymore.

The school councilors set up stalls outside rooms 5 and 6 with toys, books and baking. Just before lunch time the seniors partnered up with the juniors and took them shopping at the stalls!!

The children really enjoyed shopping for new toys and books and they also enjoyed the lovely baked goods!

It was a beautiful day and the school councilors did a wonderful job setting up and selling the items.

Words that mean the same as 'after'

For maths, we have been learning about other words that mean the same as 'after'. We came up with lots of different words then we each painted one colour of the rainbow and used the different 'after' word to describe what the next colour was.

Saint Mary MacKillop

On Friday the 8th of August, Good Shepherd School celebrated the Feast Day of Saint Mary MacKillop. We started our day off with a whole school Mass where all our new children received a welcome candle.

We went back to our classes and learnt some more about Mary MacKillop and why she was such an important person. We learnt about the kind and loving things that she had done in her life.
Each class celebrated her life in different ways.

In Room 1, we thought about words that described Mary MacKillop and wrote it using block letters. We then used as many colours as we could to colour in the word that we had chosen.

Koru Patterns

For Maori Language Week, Room 1 learnt about Koru patterns. We learnt that Koru patterns symbolized new life, growth, strength and peace.

We drew our own Koru patterns and used warm colours and cool colours to colour them in.

What makes 5?

Welcome back to Term 3!

We hope that everyone had a great holiday!

In Room 1, we have been busy getting back into our learning. There are so many exciting things that are happening this term, so watch this space!

For maths this week, the Green group have been looking at what makes 5? We have been using a lot of materials and drawing a lot of patterns that make 5.

Have a look at the work that we have been doing and see if you know any other ways to make 5

Our Prams

During Term 2, our Topic was about functions and how things work. We focused on prams and looked at  different kinds of prams, parts of a pram and we even had a few parents come in and show us their prams. Towards the end of our topic, we used old cardboard boxes, plastic drink bottles and toilet rolls to make our own prams. We then modified it by using materials to make it look better and be more comfortable for the baby. We talked about why we added our modifications and how it would make our prams better.

We had a lot of fun designing and making our prams!
Here are some pictures of our final products
